Arty avian Christmas decorations

‘Arty’ and ‘avian’ may conjure up images of antique taxidermy, or curious contemporary craft creations, like this surreal seagull-through-the-wall installation by Joanna Bryan-Smith...

A reminder that birds are not always cute, or friendly – and they’re certainly not birdbrained, especially when it comes to getting food:

If you prefer birds that are decorative rather than dangerous, then check out the fabulous boxed sets of partridges, baby doves and snooty chicks at ShopCurious.

Each pretty little bird has been lovingly handcrafted in wood - and hand painted too. They look great on the tree, but are also the perfect gift to take along to a Christmas house party. And you can rest assured they won’t gobble up your turkey, either.

Will you?

I was pooped on once in Weston-Super-Mare.I wasn't too happy about it, but it's supposed to be lucky.

  4. That's funny, Jan. I was also pooped on whilst walking from the tube station to an interview. It must be lucky, because I got the job (perhaps they didn't notice the curious stains on my freshly dry cleaned suit jacket?!)

Hi David - I'm manically busy at this time of year. Need to slow down... Hope you aren't being blown away by the strong winds up north?

  5. PS David - Love the new blog, but is it possible to comment via blogger - or at least not from a social networking site?

  6. Yep - pretty windy oop 'ere today Susan and it's not helping business. Glad you like the new site and yes, as far as I'm aware anyone can comment on the blog by unchecking the 'post to facebook' box. I say that but I'm non too good at all this technical stuff! Do let me know if you have trouble and I'll get it fixed. x

  8. Well stap mi vitals and call me a whippet. I spoke to my techie ower a pint last neet and he reckoned all you had to do was sign out of f/book and all would be rosy, but I guess a lass of your calibre cottoned on to that ruse pretty sharpish! Maybe I'm doomed to a sad and lonely life on the desolate moor of blogland!

  9. Haha, those sculptures give me the creeps. Seagulls and pigeons are the worst! I'd much rather have one of those little gilded birdies on my Christmas tree.
